November has come and gone

Certainly my least favourite month!
I came across this rhyme that I had forgotten on Autolycus’s blog, and shameless copied and pasted it. Just adding one of those November photos, which could very well have been taken in black and white

winter tree and sky

No sun, no moon!
No morn, no noon!
No dawn, no dusk, no proper time of day,

No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member -
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! -
November!

Taken from a poem by Thomas Hood

  1. No wonder you took that rhyme from autolycus’s blog, it’s clever and tells it just like NOvemberr is.

  3. Bleakness. Well, we got through November. Now, the lights begin to shine through people’s windows and on their balconies and garden trees. Keep walking, dear, there is bound to be something to lift your spirits.

  4. Eliot said April was the cruelest month for bringing violets out of the dead land: starting the whole cycle over. November marks the land’s death. November in DC, however, is kinda pretty…at the very least it’s not
    so effing HOT!

    Lovely post!

  5. It’s actually one verse of a longer poem by Thomas Hood, now mostly forgotten, but famous in Victorian times for a fair amount of comic and narrative verse, and mainly for The Song of a Shirt, about the hardships of women making shirts on piece rates at home.

  8. Bonfire night, Halloween, All Saints Day – and only 30 days. I don’t mind November at all. Now February, that’s a different ball game.

Snow here today – hope its gone tomorrow!!

  9. Thanks for the info, Autolycus!
And yes, Peggy, we did meet two years ago!
Mrs K, no bonfire night in France, and Halloween is really VERY commercial here…
