I am rather late in posting as yesterday was a pretty busy day.
This is a picture of Millenium Bridge in Gateshead, near Newcastle. Catherine and I were lucky enough to stay in Gateshead with Mrs K. (one of my faithful commenters) and Joan. Mrs K. drove us to the Angel of the North and then near Millenium Bridge.
Newcastle is a stunning place and as it was rather sunny that day, we walked around for quite a while.

When Claude says ‘walked around for quite a while’. What she really means is that Catherine and Claude, apart from the odd coffee stop and Metro home, walked around from 11.30am till 7pn when they returned to us and they were not even tired!!
Exercise does pay off. They climbed Durham Cathedral Tower the next day.
It’s certainly a very beautiful bridge – meant to look like an eye, I believe. But how does it work? Do the cars/people have to climb up it???
@ Sarah, it’s a tilting bridge. I took it at the moment when they were tilting it, other than that it’s just an ordinary bridge that you cross in an ordinary way
@ Mrs K, exercise does pay off
What a great picture. I love the reflection of the arc in the water, and how it frames the boat and buildings.
Not quite Claude, its not for cars, only pedestrians, walkers. The only motors allowed are those used by the disabled or PC correct ‘differently abled’.
Sarah, the locals call it the ‘blinking’ bridge.
It was towed from Hartlepool to its resting place by the biggest barge in the world, which came over from Singapore. When it was lifted into place, it went in straightaway – the tolerance was 6cm and was watched and cheered by over half a million Geordies.
Great engineering still exists in the North East of England. Come and see sometime.
I love this photo Claude! The perspective you captured shows off the bridge so well — and the water and its reflections are just wonderful!
Great photo!
Brilliant photo, as ever. What an interesting bridge.
I must tell you that it took me many visits back here to look at this photo to finally figure out how that bridge worked. Nice photo!
