For years, I stopped going out to see movies. I don’t know why, it just happened. I guess I felt it required too much planning on my part. All that time, I claimed that I preferred comfortably watching DVDs at home. Now don’t get me wrong, DVD watching is OK, but it is only like a whiff of the real thing.
I missed Pirates of the Carribbean I and II, so I borrowed the DVDs from my daughter who is a Johnny Depp fan. Actually so am I. I find him quite a good actor, actually, and I think he makes interesting choices for his roles. The only thing I cannot understand is how he could ever fall in love with Vanessa Paradis, who is far from being either my favourite singer or an actress I like.
I thoroughly enjoyed Pirates of the Caribbean I, The Curse of the Black Pearl even though I did realise it must have been even more enjoyable on a large screen. I didn’t get really interested in the second episode. I kept on moving around the flat to do different things.
Yesterday, I saw Pirates of the Caribbean III, At World’s End. It was the first of the three movies that I saw at the cinema, and this is really quite a different experience. I had a lot of fun, although it is quite a longish movie. It is almost impossible to sum up the plot, and it is neither here nor there. It’s just visual adventure, with great music and a lot of humour. Sheer fun!

I will probably see it eventually, but I am stuck on the “in-home” viewing experience….LOL. I like being able to pause the DVD for a bathroom break, or phone call, or snacks.
Did you see Johnny Depp in “Chocolate”…he was wonderful.
The in-theater movies do seem to have something that I can’t get at home, except that they are so LOUD.
I’ve heard people say they love it, and I’ve heard the opposite. I don’t think I can sit through something that long, though, unless it is in the comfort of my own home!
I enjoyed sitting through it and watching the spectacle, to a degree, and wasn’t bored, but nothing in it makes any sense: people die and then comes back to life (this happens a lot!), they switch sides and then switch back again and then again according to no logic, ships submerge like submarines and then resurface, etc., etc. One really has the feeling that they just made things up w/o too much thought ‘cept for the effects. (And then there was that women behind me who kept kicking my seat…)

Miss Paradis must have some wonderful qualities that we don’t know about. They seem to be happy.
I loved his line in Chocolat. “I’ll come around and take that squeak out of your door.” Oooh. He can take the squeak out of my door anytime!.
I saw the first Pirates movie, but have missed two and three. I just can’t bring myself to do it.
@ Ginnie, funny coincidence, I just complained blogged about the way movie theatres turn up the sound on my French blog. This drives me crazy too. I use earplugs.
@Chris, Pirates is not about plot
It’s definitely not for intellectuals
@Peggy, I had forgotten his line in Chocolat, but I’m with you
