The medieval village of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, one of the most beautiful in France was and still is a stopover for the pilgrims who travel to Saint-Jacques de Compostelle. The village is a real beauty.
I forgot to mention that parts of the cloister of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert are now in NewYork City at The Cloisters. Thanks to my friend Fazou for reminding me to mention it.
I took loads of photos there, which you can see here or here as a slideshow.

oh these are wonderful, Claude…I am flashing back to a mystery written by Sharan Newman (set in the 12th century, I think) about a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. can’t find the exact one but this looks so much like the villages that she describes along the way. Thanks!

Claude, I think this might be my favorite slide show of your photos! They are all wonderful. I sure would like to see that in person, especially those tall, skinny trees!
I got badly sunburnt there in 1985. But as I was in love, that’s still a good memory…
Est-ce bien des morceaux de cette abbaye qui sont dans les environs de New-York?
I’ve been to the Cloisters in NY many times; thank you for this photo tour in France.
Claude, thanks for the visit and comments. The fact that my “garden” looks good in the photos is one of the tricks of photography. In truth, it is sparse and ragged and weedy! The thing that grows the best is that poison ivy!
Amazing architecture and photos! What a lovely place to visit. Thanks for sharing.
The Pigrimage to Stantiago de Compostella is one that I have been wanting to make for a while now. The symbol of this particular pilgrimage is the scallop. I was so thrilled to see it in your slideshow.
Tout simplement magnifique ! Many thanks.
