This is a photo I took inside a museum, called La Piscine (the swimming-pool), in Roubaix, near Lille, in the north of France. This beautiful place used to be a swimming-pool and was artfully transformed into a museum by architect Jean-Paul Philippon.

I was looking at these photos last week on ‘Flickr’ and found that group of photos quite interesting.
Really beautiful place but my first thought was what was to prevent someone from accidently stepping off into the pool. Especially if you are trying to photograph one of the statues?
I suppose that’s a good thing that the water is shallow. There are people out there (like me) perverse enough to jump in. I don’t know if I’ll ever grow up.
Wow, that is just beautiful Claude. Everything about it is stunning. I love that huge fan-shaped window at the back. And those little balconies overlooking the pool and statues are really something. This is one of your best pictures ever.

I posted a comment to the picture of your mother and
her sister which I think is better than an oil painting
at ambience of place and time. This was two days ago.
The comment was viewable at first and then it disappeared. The block for my comments is preprinted

What an amazing photo and an amazing place. I’d love to visit there. Just recently I listened to an artist on Public Radio who had transformed a swimming pool in an old abandoned mental institution…she filled it with blue flowers (African Violets, I believe!)

We were in Lille last July but didn’t get to the Piscine, which is a shame. Never mind, I’ve had a look at your Lille set on Flickr and I think a return visit is called for.
The “pool” has just enough water to provide lovely reflections!
